Czech Airlines Technics (CSAT), a daughter company of Prague Airport Group, has officially launched another season of aircraft maintenance and repairs with new hangar for line maintenance on Prague Airport’s premises. Thanks to the construction of a space opposite the existing Hangar F, the company’s base maintenance capacity has also increased. Last year, CSAT employees performed over 120 base maintenance jobs for several airlines. Additional investment in the acquisition of new space, landing gear sets and certification for other aircraft are planned in the future.

“The company follows a long-term set strategy which focuses on the development of all four main business divisions, namely base, line, component and landing gear maintenance. Both economic results and the interest of airlines in high-quality services confirm that the trend has been set correctly. Investment in the construction of a new hangar, special equipment, IT technologies and landing gear sets, alongside the equipment of an additional base maintenance stand, are key to an increasing competitiveness in the aircraft maintenance market,” said Vaclav Rehor, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Prague Airport, CSAT shareholder. “In just a few years, we have managed to transform the company into a fully independent maintenance organisation which offers complex services to a number of important customers,” added Rehor.

The company decided to build a new hangar on the premises of Václav Havel Airport Prague for its line maintenance purposes. Primarily designed for lower level of maintenance checks, the hangar is located in the immediate vicinity of the original hangar used by the company and is designed for one Boeing 737, Airbus A320 Family or ATR aircraft. The construction of the new hangar, known as a Hangar S, started in September 2017 and was finished this spring. After all inspections and approval by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Czech Republic, the new hangar has gradually launched its operations. It was successfully test-run during the high summer season.

“We pursue line maintenance both in the Czech Republic and in Slovakia, where we also have our operations. We provide our services to over 85% of airlines operating at Prague Airport. The importance of the segment for CSAT has also been confirmed by the launch of operations of the new hangar. We provide services to a wide range of customers, from regular to charter flights and governmental flights. Within the segment, we take care of many types of aircraft, from narrow- to wide-body,” shared Pavel Hales, Chairman of the Czech Airlines Technics Board of Directors.

If thrilling adventures in far-flung places sounds unattainable: listen up.

Every busy college student can travel the world… it just takes a little know-how.

Unlock the secrets by checking out these 5 ways to travel more while studying.

1. Study abroad

Many colleges offer their students the chance to study abroad. That would mean moving to a new country for a semester (or even a year). While that can sound daunting, it’s actually a great way to ingrain yourself in a new culture. Studying abroad offers opportunities short-form travel can’t. You could learn a new language, make life-long friends and even earn course credit while you’re at it. To get things moving, speak to your college and find out which universities they have links to.

2. Get essay writing help

One of the main barriers stopping college students traveling is a lack of time. When there are four assignments due, sports practice and parties, when is there a chance to jet-set? Clearing the calendar, therefore, is a must for any student looking to travel more. One of the easiest ways to do this is to get help with your college assignments. Online writing services such as Essay Pro turn out high-quality custom papers for a great price. Take advantage of this option and free your schedule for things you really want to do.

3. Work abroad

Working or volunteering abroad is an excellent way to travel on a budget. Companies all over the world offer a wage (or at least food and accommodation) in exchange for a little help. Finding the opportunities is pretty easy too. There are plenty of websites out there covering all manner of jobs. If you don’t mind getting your hands dirty, WWOOF offers the chance to work on farms across the world. In exchange for around six hours of labor a day, workers get a place to stay and meals provided. There are plenty of similar sites about, just get out there and find the perfect job!

4. Join clubs

Colleges are packed with student organizations covering almost every topic imaginable. Not only are these a great way to meet new people, but they can also be the perfect way to travel. Many groups and clubs will offer trips at discounted rates to their members. These are a great chance to get on the road, plus the majority of the planning will be done by someone else. Do some research on the college website and find out where the groups that catch your eye have been before. This should give some idea about the types of places they will go next.

5. Cut travel costs

Money will always be a struggle for a broke college student who wants to travel. Luckily, there are very simple ways to dramatically cut costs. Budget flight finders such as Scott’s Cheap Flights offer plane tickets up to 90% less than the normal price. You might need to be flexible with the destination, but huge savings are guaranteed. Budget travelers can also get free accommodation by using websites such as couchsurfing.com. Not only is this the perfect way to save cash, but it’s a great way to meet locals and get tips on the local area.

The bottom line: How to travel more as a busy college student

When it comes to traveling more as a busy student, there are two hurdles that need to be overcome: time and money. Making more time is simple. Get help with homework and you’ll instantly be rewarded with an empty calendar. Cutting costs might take a bit more legwork but, with the tips above, there shouldn’t be too much difficulty.

After that, it’s just narrowing down where in the world you want to go.

According to Airbus’ Global Market Forecast, unveiled at the Wings of the Future conference in Moscow, Russia & CIS’s airlines will need some 1220 new aircraft* valued at US$175 billion in the upcoming 20 years (2018-2037). This means that the passenger fleet in the region will almost double from 857 aircraft in service today to over 1700 by 2037. Over the next 20 years, passenger traffic in Russia & CIS region will grow at the average rate of 4.1% annually with Russia being the major contributor to this growth. By 2037 the propensity for air travel in Russia will more than double.

In the Russia & CIS region, in the Small segment typically covering the space where most of today’s single-aisle aircraft compete, there is a requirement for 998 new passenger aircraft; In the Medium segment, for missions requiring additional capacity and range flexibility, represented by smaller widebodies and longer-range single-aisle aircraft, Airbus forecasts demand for 140 passenger aircraft. For additional capacity and range flexibility, in the Large segment where most A350s are present today, there is a need for 39 aircraft. In the Extra-Large segment, typically reflecting high capacity and long range missions by the largest aircraft types including the A350-1000 and the A380, Airbus forecasts demand for 44 passenger aircraft.

Airbus’ GMF foresees that in the next 20 years airlines in the Russia & CIS region will continue to renew their fleets by introducing more new fuel-efficient models, while gradually phasing out previous generation aircraft. The doubling in the fleet will require over 23,000 new pilots and 27,960 additional technical specialists.

“We see growth in the air transport sector in Russia & CIS. Tourism and business remain the key drivers resulting in an increased demand for new generation and more fuel-efficient aircraft. For over 25 years Airbus has been supporting its Russia & CIS customers in their fleet development needs, offering the most advanced, efficient and comprehensive aircraft family. We look forward to seeing more new Airbus deliveries in the upcoming years, including the A220, our bestselling A320neo Family and the A350,” said Julien Franiatte, Head of Country Russia, Airbus.

The passenger traffic growth in terms of Revenue Passenger Kilometers (RPK) to, from and within the Russia & CIS region is forecast to increase at 4.1% per year on average over the next 20 years. The region’s highest traffic growth is expected to be on international routes to Latin America (+5.9%), Asia-Pacific (+5.4%), Middle East (+5.1 %) and North America (+4.5%).

As of end October 2018, almost 400 single-aisle and widebody aircraft were in operation in Russia & CIS, with over 330 of these in Russia alone.

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) issued a final rule establishing modern, performance-based safety standards for railroad passenger equipment. The rule reinforces FRA’s commitment to safety while representing one of the most significant enhancements to the nation’s passenger rail design standards in a century. The rule paves the way for U.S. high-speed passenger trains to safely travel as fast as 220 miles per hour (mph).

“These new regulations were made possible by a wealth of FRA research, reinforcing our unwavering commitment to safety,” FRA Administrator Ronald L. Batory said. “FRA’s safety experts solicited input from industry stakeholders at numerous levels and took those ideas to develop standards supporting a new era in public transportation.”

The final rule defines a new category of high-speed rail operations and makes it possible for high-speed rail to utilize existing infrastructure, saving the expense of building new rail lines. These new ‘Tier III’ passenger trains can operate over this shared track at conventional speeds, and as fast as 220 mph in areas with exclusive rights-of-way and without grade crossings.

The final rule also establishes minimum safety standards for these trains, focusing on core, structural, and critical system design criteria. FRA estimates that the rule will improve safety because of expected improvements made by the railroads to accommodate the operation of high-speed rail equipment in shared rights-of-way.

The final rule will be a deregulatory action under Executive Order (EO) 13771, “Reducing Regulation and Controlling Regulatory Costs.” The rule is expected to save more than $475 million in net regulatory costs.

Passenger train manufacturers across the globe have utilized innovative design and testing techniques for years, incorporating features such as crash energy management. Under FRA’s previous passenger equipment regulations, U.S. rail companies have had limited procurement options or have needed to petition FRA for waivers to use these newer technologies.

The final rule continues to define Tier I as trains operating in shared rights-of-way at speeds up to 125 mph, and it also allows state-of-the-art, alternative designs for equipment operating at these conventional speeds. Tier II trains are defined as those traveling between 125-160 mph, an increase from the previous 150 mph limit. This supports a competitive operating environment for U.S. companies seeking to offer travelers more passenger rail options. By enabling the use of advanced equipment-safety technologies, this final rule helps eliminate the need for waivers.

The final rule was developed with the assistance of the Engineering Task Force (ETF), under the auspices of FRA’s Railroad Safety Advisory Committee (RSAC). The ETF membership included FRA technical staff and representatives from railroads, rail labor organizations, manufacturers and others. The ETF evaluated production trends against the U.S. operating environment. The ETF recommended that FRA expand its traditional speed-and-safety rating system to three categories of passenger trains.

Qatar Airways, in association with German football club giant FC Bayern München AG and Adidas, are proud to announce the sixth edition of the FC Bayern Youth Cup India 2018-19, taking place from the end of November until 3 February 2019 at Adidas, the Base – Plaza in New Delhi, India.

The FC Bayern Youth Cup is an under-16, seven-a-side inter-school football tournament that will pitch elite school teams from New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Chennai and Srinagar to compete against each other, giving the budding footballers a platform to showcase their talent to win a dream trip to represent ‘Team India’ and compete in the FC Bayern Youth Cup World Finals, taking place in Munich in May 2019.

The prestigious tournament aims to spread the vision of football as a global sport that brings people together from different backgrounds and cultures. Selected players will also get a chance to watch a Bundesliga match at the iconic Allianz Arena in Munich.

Qatar Airways Senior Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Communications, Ms. Salam Al Shawa, said: “Qatar Airways is thrilled to support the FC Bayern Youth Cup 2018-19 in India, further inspiring future generations in sports. Football as a sport has grown tremendously in India over the last decade, and with the recent FIFA U-17 World Cup tournament held in India, the sport is poised for further growth in terms of both participation and interest.

“We look forward to engaging with the club and the fans to enhance upcoming talent and make a positive difference to the growth of football in India. Sport is a key pillar of the long-term vision of the State of Qatar, and as Qatar’s national carrier, we welcome the opportunity to use sport as a means of bringing people together. It will be an honour to fly the winners of this tournament to the world finals in Munich in May 2019.”

Football legend and former FC Bayern München AG player, Bixente Lizarazu is due to visit Delhi for the national finals taking place in India in February 2019 ahead of the world finals, to encourage participants and give them a glimpse of what is in store for the winning team. Lizarazu has earned varied accolades during his career which includes six times championing the German league, winning the Champions League 2001, the World Cup 1998 and the European Champion 2000 with France.

Commenting on the sixth edition of the FC Bayern Youth Cup India, Bixente Lizarazu said: “India has surprised everybody with the talent it has produced in football, despite entering the football scene at a much later stage as football isn’t a main league sport in the country. It’s such an honour to be able to monitor the progress of these young teams, impart my learnings to the best possible extent and watch these budding talents amaze me with their skill set.”

Adidas India Senior Marketing Director, Mr. Sean Van Wyk, said: “Adidas, as a global leader in football, has been constantly taking initiatives to nurture football in India and to introduce new avenues to inspire the youth to partake in the sport. The FC Bayern Youth Cup is one of the key initiatives that reaffirm the brand’s constant efforts to promote and nurture football at a grass root level in India. It is an opportunity for young talent to compete and test their skills in an international environment. This year, the winning school team from the tournament will represent ‘Team India’ at the World Finals, and I am sure this will encourage the school teams to put in their best to secure a truly memorable experience that awaits them in Munich.”

Qatar Airways holds an extensive global sports portfolio, sponsoring some of the biggest teams around the world. In addition to its existing partnership with the German football club giants FC Bayern München AG, for which it is a Platinum Partner, Qatar Airways also recently revealed multi-year sponsorship agreements with Italian football club AS Roma, and with Argentinian football club Boca Juniors, which saw the award-winning airline become the Official Jersey Sponsor for both teams. The 2018 Global Traveler Report reveals that despite record numbers of air travelers, up from 415 million in 2012 to a projected 808 million this year, the size of the travel retail market is slowly shrinking.

Global travel retail spending has dropped by $15 billion from $397 billion in 2016 to a projected $382 billion this year.

The average traveling consumer is now spending $491 per trip, almost $170 less than in 2012, says the report.

Bucking the trends in almost every category is China. Between 2016 and 2018 Chinese travelers increased in outward bound traffic by a staggering 50% and now account for 40% of the money spent on travel retail around the globe.
Chinese travelers are not just spending more in airport duty-free, but also increasing in numbers – and keeping travel retail afloat while many other nationalities decrease their spending and their travel abroad.

The lowest spenders are Western Europeans; South Americans are most likely to be shopping for a bargain and North Americans and Eastern Europeans are more interested than other nationalities in buying items the country they are visiting is known for.

“It’s a big concern that despite the numbers of people traveling, the amount of money they are spending is going down,” said Horizon’s founder Dr Ian L. Cesa. “That’s a worrying trend.”

‘Multi-billion dollar decisions, particularly in relation to airports, are made on the basis of assumptions about what will appeal to travelers in airports, but we all know that spending in airports is only a fraction of what travelers spend on merchandise when they are traveling,” says Cesa. “Competition for duty free for share of wallet is not other airports, but other shops in the places travelers visit.”

Travelers going to and from the Northeast on Wednesday could wind up battling wintry weather.

The Wednesday before Thanksgiving has long been denoted as one of the busiest travel days of the year, with people going near and far to reach loved ones for the holiday.

While much of the country will experience dry or quiet travel conditions on Wednesday, the Northeast could be an exception.

The swath of snow will stretch from the Upper Midwest and the Great Lakes on Tuesday night through much of the Northeast on Wednesday.

“The biggest concern for snow squalls will be from southeastern Ontario in Canada to central and western New York and northern and western Pennsylvania,” said meteorologist Brian Thompson.

Communities such as Erie and State College, Pennsylvania, as well as Buffalo, Syracuse and Binghamton, New York, are among the most likely to see squalls of snow. Snow squalls can be explained as the wintertime equivalent of summertime thunderstorms, bringing intense bursts of snowfall to a small area.

Because of this, both road conditions and visibility can change rapidly, impacting drivers on the roads for Wednesday.

“Given that Wednesday is a busy travel day, motorists traveling along I-80, I-90, I-79 and I-86 will want to stay alert for rapidly deteriorating conditions,” added Thompson.

In addition to secondary roadways, parts of I-81 and I-87 could all experience a heavier burst of snow.

This wave of snow will not only bring tricky travel conditions, but it will also open up the door for arctic air to enter the Northeast just in time for Thanksgiving.

Temperatures will plummet Wednesday night across the Northeast, setting up the coldest Thanksgiving in years for many in the Northeast.

The sudden drop in temperature will cause any melted snow or wet areas to refreeze, creating slick conditions on untreated surfaces.

Latin American air travel is expected to double in the next two decades thanks to anticipated growth of the region’s middle class from 350 million people to 520 million by 2037, and evolving airline business models making travel more accessible.

Passenger traffic in the region has more than doubled since 2002 and is expected to continue growing over the next two decades — increasing from 0.4 trips per capita in 2017 to nearly 0.9 trips per capita in 2037. Historically, domestic traffic was the fastest growing segment, but in 2017 intra-regional traffic grew faster. Less than half of the region’s top 20 cities are connected by one daily flight, creating a great potential for the region’s airlines to build intra-regional traffic.

According to the latest Airbus Global Market Forecast (GMF), Latin America and the Caribbean region will need 2,720 new passenger and freighter aircraft to meet this rising demand. Valued at US$349 billion, this forecast accounts for 2,420 small and 300 medium, large and extra-large aircraft. This implies that the region’s in-service fleet will almost double from the 1,420 aircraft in-service today to 3,200 in the next two decades. Of these aircraft, 940 will be for replacement of older-generation aircraft, 1,780 will be accounted for growth, and 480 are expected to remain in service.

“We continue to see growth in the region’s air transport sector, despite some economic challenges. With two of the world’s top 13 traffic flows expected to involve Latin America, and traffic expected to double, we are very optimistic that the region will continue to be resilient. Also, with intra and inter-continental demand rising, Latin American carriers will be in a very strong position to increase their footprint in the global long haul market segment.” said Arturo Barreira, President of Airbus Latin America and Caribbean, at the ALTA Airline Leaders Forum.

In 2017 Panama City joined Bogota, Buenos Aires, Lima, Mexico City, Santiago and Sao Paulo in the list of aviation megacities in Latin America. By 2037 Cancun and Rio de Janeiro are expected to be added to the list. These aviation megacities will account for 150,000 long-haul passengers daily.

Airbus has sold 1,200 aircraft, has a backlog of nearly 600 and nearly 700 in operation throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, representing a 56 percent market share of the in-service fleet. Since 1994, Airbus has secured nearly 70 percent of net orders in the region.

The signing ceremony for the “Rebirth of Luzia – The Digital National Museum of Brazil” was held at the Brazilian embassy in Beijing on November 16, 2018 (local time). Marcelo Azevedo, head of the Creative Industries Section of the embassy, Alexander W. A. Kellner, director of National Museum of Brazil, and Ye Jun, vice president of Chinese internet company Tencent’s mobile browsing products, took part in the ceremony.

Tencent has taken part in the restoration of the fire-damaged National Museum of Brazil by reproducing artifacts based on digital information.

Based on the museum’s existing digital content, Tencent will build an online museum through its QQ web browser’s image recognition feature. Visitors can use the feature or Tencent’s program, specifically designed for museums, to scan existing photos or other content in order to get convenient access to an archive of digital versions of the artifacts. They can also access digitally-created voice-based guides and images of items previously displayed in Brazil’s National Museum via the program.

Moreover, Tencent and the museum will jointly invite Chinese tourists who had visited the National Museum of Brazil to upload pictures or video clips that they took while inside the museum, including both images and documents, in a move to help restore the cultural relics that were lost. Tencent will make the valuable content available for public viewing at some time in the future.

Mr. Ye said: “The National Museum of Brazil is the most important protector of cultural heritage and of relics in Latin America. We are in deep mourning as a result of the losses caused by the fire. Tencentis committed to using advanced technologies to help Brazil rebuild the national museum and we will do everything in our power to do so.”

Mr. Kellner noted: “We are trying everything to minimize the losses and Tencent’s participation in helping us locate more digital records is something very meaningful to us.”

Air travel in South Korea is tremendous and booming. Korean Lowcost Airline Jeju Air ordered 70 737 MAX 8 Boeing aircraft and placed an option to purchase 10 additional jets. The deal, valued at up to $5.9 billion at list prices, is the largest order ever placed by a Korean low-cost carrier and reflects rising demand for air travel in South Korea.

“With Korea’s growing commercial aviation market, we are excited to take the next step in expanding our business with the 737 MAX, a world-class airplane that will allow us to improve our operation and continue to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for our passengers,” said Seok-Joo Lee, President and CEO of Jeju Air. “The 737 MAX 8 and its superior performance and economics make it an ideal airplane to implement our growth strategy as we look to expand beyond Asia in the coming years.”

Jeju Air, based in South Korea’s Jeju Island, began operation in 2005 as the country’s first low-cost carrier. Since that time, the carrier has spearheaded the rapid development of Korea’s LCC market and contributed to the expansion of the broader Korean commercial aviation industry.

Flying a fleet of nearly 40 Next-Generation 737-800s, Jeju Air has steadily expanded its business and its profits. The airline has achieved 25 percent annual sales growth over the past five years and recorded 17 consecutive quarters of profitability.

Jeju Air is looking to build on its success with the enhanced version of the 737 jets. The 737 MAX 8 provides more range and offers 14 percent better fuel efficiency and environmental performance thanks to the latest CFM International LEAP-1B engines, Advanced Technology winglets, and other aerodynamic improvements.

Jeju Air serves 60 domestic and international routes with approximately 200 daily flights. The carrier is a founding member of the Value Alliance, the first pan-regional low-cost carrier alliance formed with eight airlines based in Asia.

Two years after its first presence in Milan and Rome, Goa Tourism has returned to Italy to present the latest developments in its territory to Milan tour operators and the press.

The delegation of the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) was led by Sheo Pratap Singh, IAS Secretary of PWD, Transport & Tourism for the Government of Goa; Gavin Dias, General Manager of Hotels, Marketing & Cruises for GTDC; and promoter Lloyd Monteiro, Managing Director of Purplive, a property of Alica Purple Avenues.

Goa, the name given by the Portuguese who dominated the region for 450 years, is the smallest state of India in terms of area and the fourth in terms of population. It is located on the west coast of India in the region known as Konkan. It borders Maharashtra to the north and whose capital is Mumbai, and to Karnataka to the east and south.

The capital of the state is Panaji, and Vasco da Gama, commonly known as Vasco, is the most populous city. The economic capital is Margao, an ancient city that has numerous traces of Portuguese colonization.

With these data, Gavin Dias begins to explain the characteristics of the small state that is hardly noticed on the map of the sub-continent custodian of man-made architectural treasures – mainly churches, including that of St. Francis, the holy icon of Goa and a legacy of the long Portuguese domination. Here, the Goans live in harmony with the religions and creeds of the Indian territory.

The attractions in Goa are plentiful, and tourists can count on renowned beaches, diving areas, nature reserves with turtles and crocodiles, circuits for visiting temples, spice forests, mini cruises, and for the time-free wonder of exploring the numerous markets even at night and attending the many festivals.

For fans of gambling, there are the casinos. Goa is the only Indian state where gambling is legal. This corner of “Incredible India” ranks 50th among the destinations in Asia.

Here are a few more exclusive words from the head of the delegation:

Mr. Sheo, Goa Tourism’s plans intend to develop its image among the Italians to improve their presence in Goa. What other cities do you intend to visit after Milan?

On this occasion, only Milan. A starting point to announce our interest in the Italian market. We plan to return to Italy in 2019 with a more extensive program of visits.

What sectors of the market do you intend to promote besides leisure tourism, for example, business travel, congress and conventions, the wedding market, etc.?

Tourism as a recreational activity and the beaches are our main objectives, [along with] business tourism, the congress tourism extended to all MICE activities, and the one concerning specific events such as religious tourism.

How many congress and convention structures are available in GOA and what are the hosting capacity of the major ones?

Right now, we have convention centers only within 5-star hotels, but large capacity convention centers at the international level are planned for the near future and will soon be available.

Do you have in store specific promotional activities aimed at tour operators to stimulate their interest to be passed on to customers towards their destination?

In this regard, we have commissioned our PR agency in Goa to develop projects and collaborate with representatives in Italy and in Europe.

Is your agency aware of the Italian television program on tourism at the Falde del Kilimangiaro?

I’m not sure, but I’m personally interested in receiving in-depth information on this initiative from the organizers, and after its screening, propose it to our PR agent for their evaluation.

How many Italians have visited Goa to date?

I do not have the statistics with me, but I think they are around 2,000.

Any survey conducted to know the level of appreciation or negativity of Italian tourists in Goa?

No survey so far. But our observers have noted the high appreciation of our beaches, the territory, the variety of cuisine that includes the European/Portuguese style, and night-time entertainment, a legacy of GOA’s long Portuguese domination.

Are Italian tourists attracted to your offshore casinos?

Yes, many of them go on board out of curiosity; others try their luck.

Which other cities in Italy do you plan to visit to promote the GOA destination?

On this occasion, we are not going to other cities in Italy. This is just an opportunity to announce our interest in the Italian market. We may plan to return for a more extended tour of other Italian cities, perhaps in 2019.

Any specific plans to be directed to the travel trade to stimulate their interest, too, and highlight the destination to the Italian tourist?

At present, our plans are confined to roadshows. We have appointed a PR agency in Goa who will interact with counterparts in Italy and Europe.

Perhaps you would be interested in a promotional activity regarding the presence of Goa on an Italian state TV special program called Alle falde del Kilimangiaro, focused solely on tourism and scheduled each Sunday which attracts a few million viewers.

Yes, we would like to look at this option. You can ask the organization to contact us with such a proposal.

ECTAA (The European Travel Agents and Tour Operators Association) and WTAAA (World Travel Agents Associations Alliance) joined forces against IATA, accused it of having unilaterally changed the dynamics of bargaining between airlines and travel agencies.

The joint note of the two organizations, in fact, lashes out against the 41st Passenger Agency Conference (held in Geneva on October 30 and 31) that would have given the green light to the process of dismantling agents’ consultations on financial criteria and the role of mediators between the distributors and the vendors.

Among the ECTAA subjects, involved in the debate, is Alfredo Pezzani of the air transport committee of the association, as well as a member of FTO.

In fact, despite the strong opposition of travel agents, it seems that IATA has approved a mechanism, that allows it to review the financial criteria, that the agents must meet to be accredited (Local Financial Criteria), without going through the bilateral agreements contained in the Agency Program Joint Council.

Moreover, IATA is overhauling the figure of the Travel Agency Commissioner (TAC), which has an independent mediation role when an agent wants to question an IATA decision that could damage his business.

According to ECTAA and WTAAA, in fact, every change to the figure of the TAC must be discussed and approved by the so-called Passenger Agency Program Global Joint Council (PAPGJC).

The agents, however, accuse IATA of having made changes, during the last Geneva conference, without even considering the counterpart in a “closed-door” meeting.

«This is a slap in the face to all IATA-associated agents and to the community of agencies all over the world – comments Michel de Blust, general secretary of the ECTAA – This is not a collaborative approach and, above all, highlights the distortions of the IATA regulations. If a cooperative approach is not possible, we will have to continue in other ways.»

Millions of travelers will take to the skies during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) wants to help you make it to your destination safely. You can help with that by paying close attention to what’s in your bag.

Some common toiletries that passengers pack could be hazardous. Check your bags for the following items: aerosol cans that may contain hair spray, deodorant, tanning spray or animal repellant, nail polish, artist paints and glues.
Wondering what to do with those e-cigarettes? Passengers should know that e-cigarettes, vaping devices, and spare lithium batteries are not authorized to be packed in checked luggage. Spare lithium batteries – the kind that are found in personal electronic devices and back-up charging devices – can only travel in carry-on baggage.

Electronic devices powered by lithium batteries can catch fire if they are damaged or have exposed electrical terminals. If devices start to smoke or catch fire, they are much easier to extinguish if they are in the cabin area rather than the cargo hold. The FAA recommends that passengers keep cell phones and other devices nearby in the cabin to quickly access them if necessary.

Spare lithium batteries must be placed in carry-on baggage and protected from damage or short-circuiting. Batteries should be packed so that they are not touching or bumping something that could potentially cause them to spark. If batteries are not sealed in manufacturer packaging, the battery terminals should be protected by covering them with tape and placing them in separate bags to prevent short circuits.

The UK could expect a rise in visitors from the United States (US) during Thanksgiving week, with flight bookings showing a rise of 20% compared to the same period in 2017.

Data shows flight bookings from the US to the UK are up 20% from Sunday November 18th to Saturday November 24th for 2018 compared to the week when Thanksgiving fell last year. Thanksgiving Day this year is on Thursday, November 22nd.

The increase echoes a longer-term trend with forward bookings from the US to the UK tracking up 27% from November 2018 to April 2019 compared to the same period previously.

The US is the UK’s most valuable inbound visitor market for tourism spend. Visitors from the US spent a record £3.6 billion (around $4.7 billion USD) across the UK last year, up 9% on the previous year. Visits from the US grew 13% to 3.9 million in 2017, the highest since 2000.

VisitBritain Executive Vice President, Americas, Gavin Landry said:

“There has never been a better time to book a trip to Britain, with our attractions and accommodation offering great value. US visitors can enjoy classic Thanksgiving traditions, from eating a Thanksgiving feast to watching the NFL games, ice skating and holiday light festivals and displays.

“Working with partners including American Airlines, British Airways, Norwegian Air and Virgin Atlantic, we continue to boost route connectivity and seat capacity, making it easier for US visitors to travel and explore further through regional gateways such as Manchester, driving growth from tourism across our nations and regions. The UK is the number one destination in Europe for US travelers, and it is great to see forward bookings looking strong in the coming weeks and months from our most valuable visitor market.”

VisitBritain is also working with content partners in the US including Refinery29, Matador Network, Food52 and Men in Blazers to promote Britain’s food and drink, culture and countryside and Premier League-related visitor experiences, telling the stories of destinations inspiring visitors to discover more, travel further and stay longer.

VisitBritain’s global campaign “I Travel For…” launched earlier this year in the US and is also shining the spotlight on unexpected experiences and less explored destinations across the UK alongside its globally renowned and iconic landmarks and attractions to drive tourism across the nations and regions.

US perceptions of the UK as a visitor destination are strong. The US ranked the UK second overall out of 50 nations for its overall brand in the 2018 Anholt Nation Brands Index, up one place on 2017 and equalling its highest ranking ever. The US also rated the UK highly for its vibrant cities and urban attractions and historic buildings and monuments.

Tourism is worth £127 billion to the UK economy, creating jobs and boosting economic growth across its nations and regions.
