Green Growth and Quality – what does it mean for you ?

BVI:
The British Virgin Islands Tourist Board has recently embarked on the journey of sustainability. Our mission is to turn the British Virgin Islands into a sustainable tourism destination by the beginning of 2016. We have been making small but significant strides, one of which includes getting three hotel properties “Green Globe Certified”. We intend to continue along this path through workshops about sustainable tourism with our industry partners. We believe that in our efforts to achieve sustainability that the quality of our tourism product will also be improved, as there is always room for improvement.

eTN:
Achieve market share through Green Growth and Quality – your ideas and your policies

BVI:
Sustainability and Sustainable Tourism has become one of the fastest growing trends within the global tourism industry. At the British Virgin Islands Tourist Board we believe that that along with achieving a certain level of sustainability that we would also be able to achieve a significant market share. The British Virgin Islands Tourist Board is in the process of formulating policies including a climate change policy, which is being done the the Ministry of Natural Resources and Labor, sustainable tourism policy, agri-tourism food tourism strategy.

We believe that when these policies and strategies are put into place that sustainability will be a given. Many of our industry partners and the general community on a whole has been making an effort to use green practices on a daily basis. One of our main focuses is Education and Awareness. We believe that the more people know, the more they can do. One of my ideas is a sustainable expo, to be hel d in the main area of our capital. It will be targetted to the whole territory and individuals will be able to gain information on companies, businesses, and individuals who are associated with green and sustainable practices.

This expo will be open to companies from our neighbours the United States Virgin Islands.
