The World Food Travel Association (WFTA), the world’s leading authority on food tourism, and the United Association of Food & Beverage Merchants of Macau (UFBMM), the leading food and beverage trade association in Macau, announced today the signing of a memorandum of understanding that makes Macau the Association’s second embassy world-wide and its first embassy in Asia. The Association’s first Embassy was founded in Portugal, where the next World Food Travel Summit takes place April 6-11, 2015.

Under the new partnership agreement, WFTA and UFBMM will work together to preserve and promote Macau’s culinary culture. Both organizations also seek to develop Macau as a food tourism destination, which will lead to a number of projects the two groups will work on together. The first join project is to discuss the suitability of holding a future World Food Travel Summit & Consumer Food Travel Expo in Macau. The collaborative work will benefit Macau’s hotels, resorts, restaurants, food and drink retail stores, tour operators to Macau and related food, drink, travel and hospitality businesses.

“WFTA is proud to collaborate with UFBMM. Macau is a crossroads of cultures and a fascinating culinary destination,” said the Association’s Executive Director Erik Wolf. “We are especially honored and pleased that Macau has taken the step to be our first Embassy in Asia.”

“Food is always the main attraction to the 30 million Macau visitors,” said the UFBMM Chairman Mr. Andrew Chan Chak Mo. “It is our great honor to be the first Asia Embassy of WFTA. Under the substantial and full support from our Government, our food and beverage industry will continue to be the crucial platform for the development of tourism and economy in Macau.”
