From an initial four ‘test flights’ a day a few weeks ago, the number of national airline departures now handled at the new Terminal 1A has risen to 28 and more are being shifted there as of September 16.

Flights to Bujumbura/Burundi and Kigali/Rwanda will from today onwards check in at the new terminal as will all flights to Juba/South Sudan and Khartoum/Sudan. The same applies for flights to Addis Ababa/Ethiopia and to Djibouti, but also to Bangkok, Hong Kong, and Guangzhou.

It is expected that over the next few weeks, all remaining departures of Kenya Airways will be shifted to the new terminal before other airlines will gradually follow suit.

Once the existing former Units 1 and 2, now known as Terminal 1B and 1C, are vacated, an extensive overhaul and modernization/refurbishment will get underway to bring these facilities to the latest safety and operational standards. It is anticipated that Kenya Airways’ two new Premium lounges, Pride and Simba, will be formally launched when all flights of the national airline have been shifted to Terminal 1A for departure check-in.
