After more than 13 years’ service, Fraport AG’s Executive Director Operations Peter Schmitz retired today. A reception was held to bid him farewell at Fraport AG’s headquarters. Schmitz, who joined the Frankfurt Airport company in 2001, initially served until 2009 as Senior Executive Vice President responsible for Ground Services, Fraport’s biggest strategic business unit, with more than 5,000 employees.

In 2009, Schmitz was appointed to the Executive Board, where he assumed responsibility for the company’s strategic business units “Airside and Terminal Management/Corporate Safety and Security,” “Real Estate and Facility Management” and “Information and Telecommunications.”

Fraport AG’s executive board chairman Dr. Stefan Schulte bid a personal farewell to his colleague: “Peter Schmitz has been a huge asset to our company. He is a true logistics professional who knows airport operations inside out. And he is an impressive character who is greatly valued by employees and managers alike. I wish him all the best for the future.”

Before joining Fraport AG, Peter Schmitz worked for more than 25 years in air-force logistics at national and international level. When studying business administration, he focused on logistical management. He then began his professional career as an administrator in the Materials Office of the German Air Force. He worked his way up through posts at the Command and Staff College Academy of the German Federal Armed Forces and the German Ministry of Defense to become Head of the Logistics department of NATO’s Allied Air Forces in Central Europe. His last military rank was “Colonel in General Staff Service.”

Schmitz’s responsibilities will be divided among the Fraport Executive Board, which will consist of four members in future. From September 1, these four members will be Dr. Stefan Schulte (Chairman of the Executive Board), Anke Giesen (Executive Director Operations), Michael Müller (Executive Director Labor Relations) and Dr. Matthias Zieschang (Executive Director Controlling and Finance).
