Korean Air has announced a codeshare agreement with China Southern Airlines on the Seoul-Urumqi route.

Korean Air has announced a codeshare agreement with China Southern Airlines on the Seoul-Urumqi route. The codeshare will commence on the August 22, 2014, offering greater convenience and choice to passengers.

Korean Airโ€™s flights depart from Incheon International Airport on Tuesday and Saturday and China Southern Airlines will operate on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday, giving a choice of 5 flights a week on the route.

Urumuqi, is the capital of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in North West of the Peopleโ€™s Republic of China and is a central developmental target for the China Western Development project that the Central Government of China is leading.

Urumqi, which means “beautiful pasture” in the Mongolian language, is the most remote city from any sea in the world. The city is a major hub on the historical โ€˜Silk Roadโ€™ and has many tourist attractions, including trekking courses in Tian Shan Grand Canyon and Heaven Lake of Tian Shan, which is 6,257 feet above sea level.

Korean Air expects to see an increase in both business travelers and tourists through the codeshare with China Southern Airlines on the route.

A codeshare is an aviation business partnership through which a flight operated by one airline, is jointly marketed by one or more other airlines. The purpose of a code share is to make air travel easier, by allowing travelers to travel across the networks of multiple airlines with a single reservation, in order to reach their final destination.

Korean Air currently has code share partnerships with 29 airlines on 319 routes worldwide, including SkyTeam partner airlines such as China Southern Airlines, Delta and Air France. Korean Air will continue to expand opportunities for code share partnerships to provide the most convenient schedules for its passengers.
