Warming up to the mother city is more tempting than ever this winter

Cape Town is shaping up to be an attractive value-for-money destination, year-round.

Cape Town is shaping up to be an attractive value-for-money destination, year-round. Not only is winter the time when Capetonians can explore their own city at leisure, but this year, Cape Town Tourism has rounded up a selection of special promotions that boast seriously-reduced prices and added value through lots of winter-friendly extras. A full directory of the specials in the “Warm Up To the Mother City This Winter” campaign can be easily accessed at www.capetown.travel/winter, Cape Town Tourismโ€™s winter mini-site, which celebrates the cityโ€™s winter finery.

The limited offers include complimentary nights on extended hotel stays, reduced room rates, free meals and beverages, reduced prices on tours and sightseeing busses, and free tickets on the Table Mountain Cableway. There are also great deals on eating out, sports, and adventure. New specials are added regularly making the www.capetown.travel/winter portal a worthwhile visit when planning school holidays, weekend getaways, or boredom-busting, winter activities. The campaign runs until the end of August.

Cape Town Tourism CEO Mariรซtte du-Toit Helmbold called on all Capetonians and all South Africans to come and experience Cape Town in the winter: โ€œThe beauty of a Cape Town winter needs to be shared. Sitting at a restaurant table, feasting on delicious local fare and award-winning local wine, watching the rain coming in from the sea; getting out into the fresh air and hiking or riding a horse along a deserted beach; exploring the city or over-nighting in a part of the Peninsula you seldom visit – itโ€™s all there and at budget-friendly prices, too. Itโ€™s irresistible!โ€

Cape Town Tourism is calling on aspirant photographers to enter their Flickr Winter Pic Competition with a photograph that defines the magic of a Cape Town winter. The competition is open to all, but the image must be taken in the Cape Town area. The winning photographer will be awarded an IPod Nano at the end of August. To enter, visit www.capetown.travel/winter and click on the competition side-bar.

Writers, Tweeters, and Facebookers also stand the chance to win. Cape Town Tourism is giving an Acer Notebook to the best 140 character (or less) entry to explain โ€œWhy Cape Town is Cool in Winter,โ€ To enter, visit www.capetown.travel/winter or pop into one of Cape Town Tourismโ€™s Visitor Information Centers located across the greater Cape Town region. Entries close end of August.
