The annual Kilifi Gold Triathlon this year will take place on September 6, and registration will be done at the Kilifi Plantation airstrip on the day between noon and 1:30 pm before the competition starts in earnest. The organizers have released their provisional day program which will see a formal briefing for participants at Wilson Beach from 1:45 pm till 2:00 pm at which time the race will start.

The event, individual and team, will have to swim 750 meters in Kilifi Creek, before a cycling race over 20 kilometers and finally a run through the plantation will complete the challenge.

Run since 2003 on an annual basis has the triathlon attracted ever more participants and has positioned itself as a prime fundraising, fun and sporting event at the Kenya coast.

This year is the Kilifi Gold Triathlon supporting Kesho. Kesho is a Kilifi-based NGO that offers a holistic approach to development of disadvantaged children. Through Kesho, vulnerable children from Kilifi are becoming empowered and educated, realising their dreams and beginning to break the cycle of poverty. Keshoโ€™s support is a long-term and holistic approach including but not limited to school fee support, mentoring, and guardian support. Visit their website www.keshokenya.org for more information. Kenyans and expatriates alike are welcome to register and participate in the event and with the cost of flights on Kenyaโ€™s LCC Jambojet as low as they are no reason not to make it to Kilifi on the first weekend of September. Surely, Kenya still got what it takes, yes?
