A world-class city steeped in the American spirit – or better – the murder capital of the United States travel and tourism industry.

A world-class city steeped in the American spirit – or better – the murder capital of the United States travel and tourism industry.

This is how Visit Illinois promotes Chicago – The Illinois tourism promotion agency continues saying: The American spirit has long felt at home in Chicago. Steeped in the motto, โ€œI Will,โ€ Chicago reaffirms America as a land of endless possibilities in ways most cities can only imagine. Itโ€™s a city that reversed the flow of a river. Gave birth to the electric blues. And rebuilt itself toward the heavens after a devastating fireโ€”inventing the skyscraper along the way.

The largest US airport and one of the busiest in the world is Chicago
O’Ohare International Airport (ORD). It also serves as one of the busiest foreign entry points into the United States of America. This gives Chicago a responsibility to represent not only Chicago, but the US as a nation. Therefore Chicago becomes a big part of Brand USA.

World class convention, are happening in the “Windy City”

Did the US Brand, Brand USA become a tool to promote risky out of control travel and tourism regions like Chicago? Why?

The Windy City is also a city full of violence, and this violence includes a record number of murders and shootings. It’s surprising source countries like EU nations, China, Japan, Korea, Australia, Canada and others have not issued travel warnings yet, but so far tourism is still booming in Chicago.

Chicago Tourism states: Today, Chicago greets you with a sweeping skyline punctuated by the tallest building in America. A bold first impression to a world-class city rich with unexpected surprises.

Here, you can explore the Magnificent Mileโ€”a veritable mecca for shoppers. Discover stunning architecture. Walk miles of sandy beaches along ocean-like waters. Savor Michelin-starred cuisine. And browse works of art that begin in museums and spill into city squares and lakeside park.

Breaking news headlines became a routine in the city. No one is really alarmed when reading over the last 30 days:

Five people have been killed and at least 24 others wounded in weekend shootings across Chicago.

The organizer of one of Chicago’s most popular annual parades — and the nation’s largest African-American parade — is lashing out after a shooting wounded two teens and overshadowed the rest of the day’s festivities.

A 32-year-old man was gunned down early Sunday outside an unofficial Lollapalooza after party at a nightclub in downtown Chicago.

More than 80 people were shot, 16 fatally, over the Fourth of July holiday weekend — the bloodiest weekend of 2014. In the two weekends that followed, a total of 76 people were shot, eight fatally.

After a violent holiday weekend during which 11 people were killed and more than 60 others were wounded in shootings — two of the deaths and five of the woundings at the hands of police officers — Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said Monday that the city’s gun sentencing laws aren’t strict enough to help police stem city violence.

36 People Were Shot In 36 Hours In Chicago.

Wake up Chicago – a storm has developed in the Windy City – and it’s scary.
