MOSCOW, Russia – A flight from Moscow to Novosibirsk was stuck at Moscow’s Domodedovo airport for nearly six hours. Passenger Boeing 737 could not take off because it was stuck on the melting taxiway pavement(according to the service “Yandex. Weather,” the temperature was 32ยฐC (89.6ยฐF) at that time in Moscow). According to eyewitnesses, the planes tires sank into the pavement about 10-15 centimeters deep.

“At 11.15 our aircraft – Boeing 737 – was to take off – said one passengers.” – However, we were informed that the flight was delayed by 45 minutes due to the fact that the plane still has not arrived. In 11.50, when it finally arrived, we were allowed to go to board the plane. Then the plane taxied from the airport building and stood on the taxiway, waiting for its turn to take off. But when the takeoff time came, it could not move. The asphalt has melted and rear wheels sunk in it by 10-15 centimeters.”

Domodedovo officials confirmed the information about the incident, noting that it did not affect airport’s routine. “Abnormally high temperatures have led to a slight softening of the pavement’s surface,” explained the head of the press service of the airport Daria Korshunova. “The passengers were let out of the plane and provided with food and drink. Soon they will be sentto their destination on a different aircraft.”
