Reunion Island Tourism (IRT) officials expressed their delight when the “likes” for their Facebook page reached 300,000 earlier in the week, an addition of over 100,000 since late 2013. The sharply-risen popularity is attributed to the relentless marketing of the island’s attractions not just in France itself, but also in new and emerging markets. Added content, more pictures, proactive engagement with contributors, regular fam trips for the travel trade and media, and membership in the Vanilla Islands organization, where Reunion is a founder member and presently holds the presidency of the 7 island grouping, are seen as key reasons for the surge in popularity.

On November 7, 2013, the Reunion Island Tourism (IRT) Facebook page had 200,000 fans on its counter. On July 9, 2014, eight months later, no fewer than 300,000 people demonstrated their affection for this meeting destination! Photos, videos, and contests fill the Reunion Island Facebook page, and the community is very active with fans sharing and responding to information posted daily.

The Reunion Island Facebook page is dedicated to the promotion of the islands with multiple objectives:

– inform fans of various events related to Reunion Island,

– generate the interest of potential visitors to spend their vacation on the island, and

– encourage fans to share their experiences of the destination.

The love affair with Reunion Island has already reached 300,000 fans, and Reunion Island Tourism thanks all the lovers of the island.

Next step: the landing of 400,000 fans!
