The First Praslin Island Culinary & Arts Fiesta of the Seychelles will have culinary specialities with a difference. The Seychelles is known to be the home of the unique coco-de-mer double coconut with its erotic shape. For years the kernel of this forbidden fruit has been exported to traders in Asia with many a trader in China, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, Taiwan among many others going through extraordinary lengths to get the kernel of this nut because of the conviction that it has special “aphrodisiac” qualities.

The Seychelles Ministry of Tourism and Culture working alongside the Seychelles Tourism Board were earlier this year approached by the two elected Members of the National Assembly for Praslin and the District Administrators to propose a event for the island of Praslin that would appear on the Calendar of Events of the Seychelles.

Following a series of meetings and consultations visits on the island of Praslin, Alain St.Ange, the Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture of the Seychelles announced that from the 5th to the 7th of September this year the first edition of the Praslin Culinary & Arts Festival will be staged on Praslin with the official opening on Friday at Grande Anse and the Saturday fiesta at Cote D’Or in the Baie Ste Anne District.

This event will put the island of Praslin at the island of good food where the Seychelles Creole cuisine is proudly prepared and dished out for visitors and Seychellois alike to appreciate.

The Seychelles Tourism Academy is working alongside many Kitchen Chefs of Praslin to prepare different dishes using the unique coco-de-mer kernel and that these dishes will be available for everyone to savour during the three days of the Praslin Culinary and Arts Fiesta from the 5 to the 7 September.

The Ministry of Tourism and Culture have confirmed that in the coming weeks the full program of the Praslin Culinary and Arts Fiesta will be published.
