This Tuesday, June 17, 2014, the 11th Conference of “New trends in tourism consumption and tourism online” will be held in Paris, France. This is an annual event organized by the Interactive Raffour firm and which Reunion Island Tourism (IRT) supports. Loic Oliere, Deputy Marketing Manager of the IRT will speak at the conference on the theme “How to turn a virtual proximity real close.” The seminar will be a time to meet, exchange, and contribute operational knowledge for over the 200 industry professionals participating. This will also put the focus on Reunion Island, confirming its position as a “geek destination.”

Convinced that today’s vacationer is now a web surfer, the IRT has decided to focus on social networks in order to listen to the community and get closer to the expectations of 2.0 tourists. With the impact and challenges of social media, the Reunion Island Tourism has developed a digital communication strategy that allows it to build a close relationship with its users and transform its most loyal fans and followers in prescribing the destination. But that’s not all.

To go further, the IRT has launched a mobile 360-degree application – an innovation that should enable it to earn points from these new 2.0 travelers. Reunion Island Tourism has also had the honor of being awarded the gold for its 2012 Travel Tours Application Virtual Meeting. This has been a strategy that is paying off, as the IRT today has over 275,000 fans on its French Facebook page, and the destination is followed by more than 5,250 followers on Twitter.

In one year, the site, “The Meeting,” welcomed more than 2.3 million users with 1.4 million unique visitors. The website receives over 7.7 million page views. These are figures any destination would be proud of and which should further increase with the new website of the island, offering better user interactions with more experience.

For those who wish to discover Reunion Island in pictures, the destination also offers more than 333 videos on Youtube in the Reunion Tourisme chain, with content viewed over 870,857 times.

There is a special relationship IRT has with its community that it cultivates every day by offering travel tips, ideas for visits, and especially staying tuned and issuing advice. These are points on which emphasis Loic Oliere will emphasize during his speech.

The 11th Annual Conference will host 14 other players in the market who will speak: Voyages-sncf.com, France Cruises, ESTHUA, Futuroscope, Criteo, Alliance 46.2, Gites de France, HOP, Paypal, Netbooster, SNCF travel ANCV, and Transat Francej, to name a few.

Raffour Guy, Chairman of Cabinet of Studies and Research in Raffour Interactive, specializing in marketing tourism studies, will present the opportunity for its 12th annual survey conducted among French and enriched developments 2014. A study will focus on the analysis of leisure tourism in the French market and will focus on major themes, including starting rates for short and long stays, the potential of tourism online, M-tourism, social networks, and more.
