LOS ANGELES, California – Green Globe congratulates Wissenschafts- und Kongresszentrum Darmstadt GmbH & Co.

LOS ANGELES, California – Green Globe congratulates Wissenschafts- und Kongresszentrum Darmstadt GmbH & Co. KG (darmstadtium) on its recent re-certification, again demonstrating the congress centerโ€™s commitment to sustainable management.

Darmstadtium is a high-tech convention center with strong links to the cityโ€™s business and academic communities The darmstadtium is heated primarily using its internal heat sources. The onsite biomass boiler is an important part of the congress center’s energy supply. Locally-sourced woodchips are used as fuel, which reduces unnecessary and damaging CO2 emissions produced by transporting fuel.

The roof of the darmstadtium is fitted with over 400 solar modules for generating electricity. Each module in the photovoltaic unit generates 180 Watts of electricity โ€“ approx. 70,000 kilowatt hours per year. And to ensure the building remains cool in summer, the facades are made from special heat-reflecting glass.

Lars Woehler, Managing Director of the convention center darmstadt said, ” โ€˜Green meetingsโ€™ as a key trend in the event sector demonstrate that providers and companies are aware of ecological issues and wish to take responsibility for the environment and our planet’s future. For the darmstadtium, it is not only a trend.

โ€œThe darmstadtium is a showcase for sustainability, conservation of resources and intelligent use of energy and therefore predestined as a future-oriented venue for climate-friendly meetings. We are proud of being certified as meeting the requirements of the Green Globe Certification Standard once again,โ€ added Wรถhler.

Along with its certification award, darmstadtium also recently won the INCON Digital Infrastructure award at the annual IMEX International Tradeshow. The INCON award recognized the congress centerโ€™s adoption of new digital technology to improve communication and productivity amongst its delegates. This was achieved by enhancing the freedom of their BYOD (Bring Your Own Devise) network with a unified management system.

Green Globe Director of Communications, Bradley Cox said, โ€œTo be a leader in sustainability management our certified members have to be innovators in their industry sector. In regard to both the re-certification and the INCON award darmstadtium has chosen to invest in continued improvement of its customer experience giving the center a competitive and positive advantage.โ€
