The SOCA News magazine in the UK has come out with a four-page feature on the Seychelles Carnival entitled “Sleepless in Seychelles,” describing how the event can keep a visitor on his/her feet as spending lazy days by the pool would probably not be a wise decision during carnival time.
Writer Stephen Spark, who is now a faithful media guest at the Carnaval International de Victoria, compliments Seychelles on improving on each edition of the carnival so far and says “…it is hard to believe that the 2014 edition was only the country’s fourth carnival …”
Spark speaks of the continued success of the carnival and says the friendliness of the Seychellois, the atmosphere, and small size of the place makes anything possible.
“Where else can you see representatives of Brazil, Trinidad, and London carnivals within a few meters of each other? Where else can you see Koreans partying with Germans or Chinese acrobats posing with Madagascan dancers?” he writes.
The feature speaks of the highlights of the three days of carnival celebrations and notes that for the first time, a children’s carnival and a Masquerade Carnival Ball were also organized.
In addition to the official schedule, it says, numerous smaller events took place around the capital of Victoria during the three days.

“If you intend to sample them all, you can forget any notion of sleep,” Spark advises anyone planning to attend the carnival in the future.
