Tourism Minister Kapata hails ties between Zambia, Seychelles
Zambia Tourism Minister Jean Kapata says the government has partnered with Seychelles in promoting the country's tourism sector.
Zambia Tourism Minister Jean Kapata says the government has partnered with Seychelles in promoting the country’s tourism sector.
And Seychelles Foreign Affairs Minister Jean-Paul Adam says African countries must find resources to promote the continent as one destination and not as fragments of different countries.
During a meeting with Adam in Victoria on Friday, Kapata said Zambia had a lot to learn from Seychelles especially in the area of festival organization, prompting further measures to strengthen bi-lateral cooperation between the two countries.
“Tourism products in Seychelles and Zambia complement each other; Seychelles offers ‘beach and sun’ while Zambia provides ‘wildlife and adventure encounters.’ My ministry will consider the possibility of sending a team to Seychelles for a training program,” said Kapata according to a press release issued by Zambia Tourism Board (ZTB) Public Relations and Media Manager Caristo Chitamfya.
And Adam said African countries must find resources to promote the continent as one destination and not as fragments of different countries.
“…Africa should learn from the Caribbean model by selling Africa as one destination that offers unique products and experiences in different countries. The pyramids in Egypt, beach and sunshine in Seychelles, and wildlife in Zambia are a marketing package that would attract a lot of foreign tourists such as the high-income Chinese travelers,” he said.
Adam further expressed his government’s desire to facilitate the introduction of “a flight a day” between Zambia and Seychelles but that this called for the review and modernization of the 1980 Bilateral Essence Agreement with the Zambia Civil Aviation Authority.
“Seychelles is already in contact with big airlines like Emirates that could be persuaded to extend their flights into Zambia once the aviation agreements are in place,” said Adam.
