Trinidad and Tobago is seeking to increase the number of visitors from the Dutch Caribbean islands of Curacao, Aruba, and Bonaire, as the dual-island nation targets its neighbors in an effort to increase visitor arrivals.
Describing the Caribbean as one of Trinidad and Tobago’s most important markets, Yolande Selman acting Chief Executive Officer of Tourism Development Company Limited (TDC), said the country is seeking to position itself as the preferred Caribbean destination for the region’s travelers.
“From a strategic point of view, the Caribbean traveler delivers great returns on our marketing investment and we are looking forward to further tapping into island markets that have been bypassed in favor of the traditional source markets of North America and Europe,” Selman explained.
Last year’s introductory presentations to travel agents on both Curacao and Aruba generated much interest in Trinidad and Tobago as the next vacation destination for the citizens of the Dutch isles. These presentations were followed up with sales calls to travel agents who were eager to offer packages to the islands to their customers.
The team from the TDC included Marketing Specialist for the Caribbean Carla Cupid and Destination Packaging Specialist Dahlia Mohammed and both ladies also met with the islands’ local carrier InselAir who gave their commitment to providing a feeder service from Aruba and Bonaire into Curacao where four weekly direct flights are available into Port of Spain, Trinidad.
Next on the agenda are consumer shows on each island as part of an aggressive marketing campaign to create awareness of destination Trinidad and Tobago with the aim of capturing this lucrative market.
It is expected that this initiative and others within the region will contribute significantly to an increase in visitor arrivals from the Caribbean by the end of 2014 and into 2015. Look out for exciting packages to Trinidad and Tobago from the Dutch isles in the near future.
