May and June this year will be hallmark months for Qatar Airways, as the airline prepares for a shift of operations to the new Hamad International Airport on May 27. However, that is not all that is in store for the faithful travelers from the East African destinations of Entebbe, Kigali, Nairobi, Kilimanjaro, and Dar es Salaam, as two more major innovations are on the way.

Yesterday, Qatar Airways launched their 6th daily flight from Doha to London, using an Airbus A319 in an all-business-class configuration of only 40 flat-bed seats. This value-added service, which will attract higher-than-standard business class fares charged on the other 5 flights, is expected to tap into the potential of growing traffic in the premium segment from QRโ€™s destinations in Africa, the Middle East, India, and the Far and South East.

The next major event, besides, of course, launching yet more destinations until then and beyond, is the much anticipated arrival of Qatar Airwaysโ€™ first Airbus A380, which will feature a three-class configuration of First, Business, and Economy in what has been described as the most spacious cabin in the skies. In fact, on June 17, this giant aircraft will be deployed on the route to London Heathrow, besides 4 daily flights with the Boeing B787 Dreamliner, and as of yesterday the Airbus A319 with its dedicated business-only cabin.

Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Mr. Akbar Al Baker yesterday said in Doha ahead of the inaugural flight of the all-business class service: โ€œThe launch of our first all-premium product Business One reaffirms Qatar Airwaysโ€™ determination to provide the best five-star service and comfort in the air for our Business Class passengers. The Doha to London Heathrow route is one of Qatar Airwaysโ€™ most popular Business Class destinations, and we continue to see increasing demand from passengers in Doha and those connecting onto London Heathrow from our network of worldwide destinations. Combined with the new Qatar Airways Premium Lounge at London Heathrowโ€™s Terminal 4, and our Premium Terminal in Doha, our passengers can experience the very best Business Class service in the industry.โ€

Upcoming new long-haul destinations are Miami on June 10, Haneda on June 18, and Dallas/Fort Worth on July 1.
