One of Kenya’s leading green NGOs, Ecotourism Kenya, has appointed Ms. Grace Nderitu as their new CEO, effective immediately.

Mr. Mohanjeet Braar, the Chairman of Ecotourism, released the announcement yesterday from the organization’s office in Nairobi. Grace had previously worked as first membership officer and then as marketing officer between 2007 and 2011 and during this time exceled in building relationships with members while positioning Ecotourism at the center of stakeholder relations. In addition, Grace gained yet more work experience as project manager at the Basecamp Foundation Kenya, before she was, after an extensive process of interviews, selected as the new Chief Executive of Ecotourism Kenya.

Grace holds a Bachelor Degree in Communications and Tourism from the University of Nairobi and an MBA in Project Management from the Kenyatta University in Nairobi.

Ecotourism Kenya, in their own words, “promotes responsible tourism practices within the tourism industry. This entails encouraging the adoption of best practices in the use of tourism resources, working with local communities, and managing wastes and emissions.” The organization is Kenya’s number one eco-rating agency since 2002 and conducts the relevant audits before awarding the coveted Bronze, Silver, and Gold ratings to safari lodges and camps, following the UN’s Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria standards. There are presently only 10 Gold-rated, 58 Silver-rated, and 32 Bronze-rated such establishments found in Kenya, from among hundreds of unrated competitors, giving a market advantage vis-a-vis discerning travelers who today value such measures when selecting their camps or lodges before embarking on that safari of a lifetime.

Ecotourism Kenya also selects and honors every year the “Eco Warrior” for outstanding achievements in embracing and practicing ecologically-sound methods of operations, using renewable energy sources, and treating waste among other criteria.
