The city is popular with tourists and this the third attack in Guangzhou this year and comes less than a week after at least three assailants launched what authorities described as a terrorist attack on a railway station in the capital of Xinjiang province.
Visitors and tourists to Guangzhou should be aware of this increasing threat.
Photographs posted on social media showed the bloodied body of an apparently dead man being dragged away from outside a branch of McDonald’s by four men. Other images showed large crowds gathered around an ambulance and bloodstains on the station’s concourse.
The People’s Daily said the perpetrators had been wearing white t-shirts and “white caps” and had attacked passengers getting off a train arriving from the southwestern city of Kunming.
At least one suspect has been shot dead and six people left injured after four attackers launched a lunchtime assault on a railway station in southern China, state media reported.
Xinhua, China’s official news agency, labelled the incident a “violent attack.”
