In March 2014, airberlin welcomed a total of 2,257,808 passengers on board. With passengers traveling almost 3.7 billion kilometers in airberlin’s global flight route network, capacity utilization reached the high level of 84.1 percent. As was the case in the preceding months, airberlin further expanded flight capacity in yearly comparison. The airline company is reducing the previous seasonal fluctuations between winter and summer flight schedules by offering more year-round connections, especially on touristic routes and on long-haul flights, while establishing its offers on the market in the long-term.

Since the Easter business, which is of great importance for the airline companies, falls in April this year, the number of passengers (-4.4 percent) and capacity utilization (-3.6 percentage points) in March was below that of the corresponding month of the previous year, which included the Easter vacation. As in other years, airberlin is already experiencing a high demand for the Easter holidays. In addition to the classic Mediterranean flight connections, especially the flight routes with increased frequencies to the Canary Islands, and to New York (JFK) and Chicago are high in demand.

The revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) for March decreased by 2.5 percent in yearly comparison to 3.673 billion (previous year: 3.766 billion), due to the absence of the Easter business. The number of available seat kilometers increased by 1.8 percent to 4.369 billion (previous year: 4.294 billion).
