Taipei will host 69th Skal World Congress

The official Opening Ceremony will be held at the Taipei International Congress and Convention Hall (TICC). The Opening Ceremony will include the parade of the flags of all the nations represented in Skål, the official speeches, the presentation of the Skål Club of the Year Award and the presentation of the 7th Ecotourism Awards. On Tuesday, October 14, 2008, the General Assembly, which is the one occasion every year when all the Clubs have the chance to meet and discuss items of mutual interest and vote for the candidate for the coming year and select the venue for the Congress in 2010, will be held. During the General Assembly in Taipei the amendments to the Statutes will also be tabled. Clubs should ensure that these proposed amendments are discussed locally and the Club delegate instructed how to vote. On Tuesday evening October 14, 2008, all Skål members and accompanying persons will come together for dinner at the magnificent Grand Hotel overlooking the Taiwan basin. Dinner will be served on the top floor with its great view of the city. Following dinner, a Talent or Friendship Night will be held where talented Skålleagues and friends will have the opportunity to perform, sing or play a musical instrument. After the success of this evening in Antalya last year, we have been asked to organize it again. There will be a form on the website for you to indicate your particular talent. Wednesday morning, October 15, 2008, the annual Tourism Forum will commence at 09:30 hours in the TICC auditorium. The speaker this year will be Bert Van Walbeek, managing director, The Winning Edge, and his topic will be “Expect the Unexpected.” Bert is an expert in crisis management and delivers his serious lectures in a not-so-serious and enjoyable manner – not to be missed. The Tourism Forum will be followed immediately by the Business to Business (B2B) workshop. This is the workshop’s third year, and it has gone from success to success. Meetings will last 15 minutes and no deadline has been put on the duration of the workshop, which can continue after lunch if necessary. The President’s Gala Dinner will be held at the Sheraton Taipei Hotel on the evening of Wednesday, October 15, 2008. Table reservations for this event are being sent with the congress registrations papers by e-mail.
