Global Traveler awards Chicago O’Hare airport

YARDLEY, Pennsylvania – Global Traveler, the only monthly magazine for business and luxury travelers, awarded Chicago O’Hare International Airport the award for Best Airport in North America.

YARDLEY, Pennsylvania – Global Traveler, the only monthly magazine for business and luxury travelers, awarded Chicago O’Hare International Airport the award for Best Airport in North America. Francis X. Gallagher, president and CEO, Global Traveler, presented the award to Rosemarie Andolino, commissioner, Chicago Department of Aviation.

Chicago O’Hare International Airport won Best Airport in North America in Global Traveler’s 10th annual GT Tested Reader Survey awards, a yearly survey of the magazine’s readers, an elite group of frequent luxury business travelers. More than 22,000 people voted for the best in a variety of travel-related categories. GT readers are frequent premium travelers averaging 16 international and 16 domestic round-trip flights a year, with an average household income of $368,900 per year. Global Traveler’s elite readers spend an average 100 nights per year in hotels. A whopping 76 percent regularly travel in business class. Chicago O’Hare International Airport has won this award for 10 consecutive years. As recognition of the achievement, the airport was also inducted into Global Traveler’s 10-Year Hall of Fame.

Since Commissioner Andolino’s appointment, Chicago O’Hare International Airport welcomed a number of new air passenger services. United launched service to Edinburgh, Scotland and Shannon, Ireland. The airport welcomed Avianca, Hainan Airlines, Austrian Airlines, Qatar Airways, airberlin, Copa Airlines, Cathay Pacific Airways, Air India and Etihad Airways. A number of airports also increased services, including All Nippon Airways, American Airlines, WestJet, Spirit Airlines, Virgin America and Aeromexico.

Global Traveler conducted an open-ended survey of its readers to determine the best in more than 70 travel-related categories. The survey was conducted from January 1, 2013 to August 31, 2013. Questionnaires were available in subscriber copies of the magazine, online at www.globaltravelerusa.com/awards-survey-ballot and through direct mail and email. Only questionnaires with more than 50 percent of the questions answered were considered. An outside accounting firm, Citrin Cooperman LLP, tabulated the results. Employees of the magazine and members of the travel industry were barred from participation.
