LOS ANGELES, California – “A great achievement of our environmental team, headed by Mr. Marc Baeumer, our technical advisor, and a wonderful result for our environment and our visitors,” comments Ms. Ilona Jarabek, Managing Director at Musik und Kongresshalle Luebeck (MuK) in Germany. “As a result of a comprehensive sustainability audit, we scored 96% against the Green Globe criteria, and earned the prestigious certification for the third consecutive year.”

Back in 2009 this top performing event venue launched their in-house environmental management system, implementing energy, environmental, and social initiatives. With visible success! Over the past two years, Euro 300,000 could be saved in operational costs.

Other milestones in the development of environmental management include the creation of an energy-efficiency analysis, the switch to LED bulbs throughout the entire property, the installation of a water-flow regulator, and the conversion of the building control system. The CO2 emission was reduced by 75% in the last three years. A photovoltaic system, installed on the roof, covers about 4% of energy needs.

“As an event organizer we have to act in a responsible manner and raise awareness among our partners, customers, and staff members. If you want to be successful in the event sector these days, you have to follow the green trend and deliver a sustainable product,” commented Ms. Jarabek, who likes to use the MuK bicycle to travel to her appointments within the city. “This is not only a lot of fun, but it’s good for your health, and for the environment.”

Visitors get to benefit from discounted round-trip tickets on German national railway Deutsche Bahn, and free public transportation in Luebeck with their event tickets. Green electricity and sustainable catering, featuring seasonal and regional products, are included with event packages.

The Musik und Kongresshalle Luebeck is actively involved with the local community, supporting charitable organizations and social projects. Partnering with “Klima Pro Luebeck,” MuK promotes the goal to make Luebeck a 100% sustainable and green city.
