(August 6, 2008) – After being compulsorily “timed out” of the New Zealand Travel Industry Awards for three years – after winning the ‘Best Hotel’ award three years in succession from 2002 to 2004 – Grand Mercure St. Moritz Queenstown was back with a vengeance last night to take out the major accommodation prize for ‘Best Visitor Accommodation.’ St. Moritz also took out the award in the Hotel and Resort category and was a runner up for the Supreme Tourism Award. The awards were held in Christchurch.
The business excellence awards are based on a rigorous judging framework encompassing Leadership, Strategic Planning, Customer and Market Focus, Analysis & Knowledge Management, Workforce Focus, Process Management and Business Results.
Grand Mercure St. Moritz general manager, Lynne McVicar, said that while it was frustrating not to have been allowed to re-enter the NZ Tourism Awards for three years, it was very fitting that the new set of awards came on the 10th anniversary of the opening of the Grand Mercure.
“To receive this award in our tenth year is testament to the immense belief and commitment in the hotel from so many,” she said. “To me, business excellence can only be achieved when there is a passion and a true vision of product and service delivery for the long term. My sincere thanks to a team of people past and present who have created a culture where true commitment and passion delivers results.”
Winning this award marks a new beginning for St. Moritz as it celebrates its 10th birthday and the completion of a substantial refurbishment this year. Building upon a history of design quality, the extensive makeover will further cement the hotel as one of Queenstown’s most impressive properties.
St. Moritz is a 144-room, upscale hotel featuring a unique blend of apartments and traditional hotel accommodation. Centrally located and overlooking Lake Wakatipu, this alpine lodge-style hotel has become renowned for its unique product offering, sense of true hospitality, and distinctive style.
As part of the Accor network, this property and destination are promoted to the world.
