First global director of sales for Dusit International

Dusit International has appointed Simon Burgess as their first global director of sales.

Dusit International has appointed Simon Burgess as their first global director of sales. He will be responsible for overseeing all aspects pertaining to the sales strategies and activities of Dusit Internationalโ€™s hotels and resorts worldwide.

As Dusit International brings new properties on line, both in Thailand and overseas, a new global sales structure will be implemented, with a renewed emphasis on key account management to meet the demands of the companyโ€™s expansion. The re-structure follows the launch of a similar global sales initiative for the Dusit Princess Hotels & Resorts brand which is already in place.

Octavio Gamarra, senior vice president, Dusit International, said, โ€œIn line with the new marketing strategies for Dusit International, one of our key priorities is to be even more responsive to the needs of our client base and provide a one-stop sales shop for our growing collection of hotels and resorts. Simonโ€™s appointment to the newly-introduced role of global director of sales for the company will provide the leadership and management of the sales activities in a more innovative and dynamic environment. We are delighted to have Simon in this role after 3 years in the operations field of one of our leading resorts, Dusit Thani Hua Hin, his experience on property combined with his international tourism marketing background will prove to be invaluable as we set Dusit International more aggressive targets for 2009.โ€

Simon Burgess, global director of sales, Dusit International, added, โ€œThis is an exciting time to be working with Dusit International as our portfolio of properties continues to grow, both in Asia and worldwide. ‘dusitD2 baraquda pattayaโ€™ will open later this year and โ€˜dusitD2 samuiโ€™ will open in mid 2009, presenting new opportunities for our progressive โ€˜dusitD2โ€™ design brand. In addition, we open Dusit Thani LakeView Cairo at the beginning of next year, as well as having two properties scheduled for Abu Dhabi and three properties on The Palm Jumeirah.โ€

Simon Burgess has a long association with Dusit International dating back to 2003 when he worked in London as an account director for the UK Regional Sales Office before joining Dusit Thani Hua Hin on property as the executive assistant manager in 2005. A marketing graduate from Newcastle Upon Tyne University, Burgess brings a successful track record of working in travel sales including retail, tour operation, hotel and destination marketing, as well as a wealth of experience from previous positions with Regal Hotels & Resorts, Massachusetts Port Authority, STA Travel and Ebookers, all based in the UK. He will continue to work closely with Emma Cashmore, UK Office on the successful promotion of Dusit International.

The origins of Dusit International goes back 60 years when their founder, Thanpuying Charnut Piyaoui, who had travelled extensively, had the desire to build a hotel that would be like the ones she had admired in the USA but which would also be specifically Thai.
