Taiwan’s largest airline launches non-stop service to Weihai in China

TAIPEI, Taiwan – China Airlines (CAL), Taiwan’s largest airline, launched non-stop service to Weihai in China’s northern Shandong Province Tuesday to capitalize on increasing interest in travel to the coastal city.

While the inaugural flight from Taoyuan International Airport was launched to welcome in the new year, flights on the route will not be offered regularly until from Jan. 17.

The once-weekly flights will be serviced every Friday by Boeing 737-800 aircraft, which seat up to eight passengers in Business Class and 150 in Economy Class.

The weekly service aims to boost travel exchanges between Taiwan and Weihai, CAL President Samuel Lin said, adding that about 20,000 Taiwanese nationals visited the Chinese city in 2012.

With the new route to Weihai, CAL will be operating 115 cross-strait flights to a total of 27 Chinese destinations, the company said.
