Chinese cultural and Confucian performances will take over Times Square this New Year’s Eve as the Sino-American Friendship Association, (SAFA), presents Confucianism and Shandong Culture at the opening of the Times Square New Year’s Eve Countdown Celebration 2014.

As millions watch the Times Square New Year’s Eve Ball’s first ascent at 6 p.m. EST on December 31st at the Duffy Square Countdown Stage, Chinese and American Officials will deliver greetings while a “Confucius” will share some wisdom with the world.

This is the first time an aspect of Confucianism and Shandong Culture will be part of the ball dropping celebration since it began in 1907, as the Shandong Province represents China this year.

Confucianism along with Kungfu, represent Chinese “Zhong” and “Yi,” and will reveal the fundamental elements of loyalty and righteousness while presenting the beauty and diversity of one of the city’s most populous ethnic group.

Complimentary red scarves, symbolizing the friendship between the US and China, will be distributed to those in attendance while revelers will be treated to a special treat of Chinese local music performed with a combination of Chinese, Caribbean and Brooklyn style.

Peter Zhang, President of the Sino-American Friendship Association says this countdown opening ceremony is truly eastern culture meets New York tradition.
