The Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) has been audited for compliance to the ISO 9001:2008 quality management system certification by TUV Nord Malaysia, an audit and management systems certification body. Based on the result of the audit, ISO 9001:2008 certification will be awarded.
BCCK’s scope of certification encompasses the ”Provision of Service and Delivery of Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions (MICE) covering processes relating to sales and marketing, event planning and service which are crucial to executing successful events held at the convention centre.
“Quality service is paramount for BCCK. Our team spent over a year to establish, review, monitor and fine-tune our working practices, and underwent extensive training to achieve competency in their tasks. This successful certification exercise illustrates BCCK’s commitment to delivering quality services against the principles of the ISO 9001:2008 standard. Most importantly, we aim to meet and where possible, exceed our customers’ expectations. I would like to thank our ISO 9001 team who have created an international quality benchmark which will be the building blocks to further enhancements in the coming years. And to our patrons who have made BCCK their venue of choice and supported our position as Sarawak’s major MICE player with a global vision,” said Christopher Wan, Corporate Services Manager and Quality Management Representative of BCCK.
The ISO 9001:2008 certification is the second ISO management system for BCCK, having successfully embarked on the ISO 22000:2005 Food Safety Management System in 2011 to ensure that all food and beverages prepared by and served at BCCK meet the highest level of food safety requirements. The food safety management certification covers in-house catering for all types of business events, weddings and personal events hosted at BCCK and also dining at BCCK’s Raintree Restaurant.
“We took it upon ourselves to go for both the ISO 22000 Food Safety Management System and ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System because we firmly believe that it takes more than just having state-of-the-art facilities to deliver great events. By subscribing to both ISO quality management systems, we assure our customers of consistent quality in terms of service delivery and food safety practices. Event organisers can safely leave the planning of their events in the competent hands of our trained team,” said Paul D’Arcy, Chief Executive Officer of BCCK.
“2013 has been a resounding year for BCCK, with more private and public sector organisations entrusting their events to us, and our Centre achieving the ISO 9001 certification and being recognised as Best Venue of The Year 2013 by the Sarawak Convention Bureau at the recent Anak Sarawak Appreciation Award 2013. With our Centre attracting a greater volume of business, both ISO 9001 and 22000 serve as useful tools for us to enhance the overall management of events, big and small, and particularly major international events such as the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2014 in January and Routes Asia 2014 in March next year,” Paul D’Arcy added.
ISO stands for International Organisation for Standardisation and a quality management system (QMS) is a set of policies, processes and procedures to help the organisation meet customer requirements.
The Anak Sarawak Appreciation Award (ASAA) is an annual event organised by the Sarawak Convention Bureau (SCB) to acknowledge conference hosts, industry members and suppliers for their extraordinary passion, leadership and commitment in ensuring the success of international, regional and local business events in Sarawak.
