PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad – From December 4 to 12, five tour operators from the United Kingdom experienced firsthand Trinidad and Tobago’s eco-adventure offerings as part of a familiarization tour hosted by the Tourism Development Company Limited.

The Caribbean nation of Trinidad and Tobago is traditionally thought of as the home of Carnival, one of the biggest street festivals in the world, however with lush rainforests, rare wildlife and close to 100 protected areas, this destination is more than a relaxing beach holiday.

The operators, representing Responsible Travel, Exodus Travel, Audley Travel and Tourdust, all agencies which specialize in eco-adventure and sustainable tourism, participated in a range of activities, including zip lining, mountain biking, an off-road jeep safari and stand-up paddle boarding. The initiative, aimed at ensuring the dual-island destination is featured by tour operators who specialize in eco-adventure, was also designed to raise awareness of the many new and exciting products on offer within this niche.

With Trinidad and Tobago’s growing in popularity amongst adventure seekers and eco-enthusiasts the familiarization tour offered specialist eco and adventure tour operators the skills to better sell the destination by experiencing Trinidad and Tobago’s wildlife, birding and other complimentary activities.
