XIAMEN, China – Xiamen International Cruise Terminal won the Best Growing Competence Award 2013 at the 8th China Cruise Industry Development Conference and the International Cruise Expo, which successfully concluded in Shanghai on 17th November.

Themed โ€œCruise Tourism, Cruise Economicโ€, the expo, organized by the National Tourism Administration, China Communications and Transportation Association and the Shanghai Municipal Government, attracted participants representing America, Britain, Germany and other 15 countries and regions, and scholars and experts from Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin and other cities.

The representatives and experts held heated discussions on cruise development, cruise construction and the training of cruise talent in China at the expo. The โ€œChina Sea Cruise Tourism Overall Planโ€ was launched, and the China Cruise Development Committee of Experts was established at the expo.

Xiamen International Cruise Terminal, one of the most important ports for Taiwan travel on the west side of the Taiwan Strait, was awarded the Best Growing Competence Award for its great development potential.

Since its launch in 2008, the terminal has received more than 150,000 cruise passengers. In October 2013, four cruise routes, which take off from Xiamen, were launched, including the Xiamen-Kaohsiung-Hong Kong and the Xiamen-Keelung-Taichung-Kaohsiung 5-night-6-day routes.

The city is currently building the terminal into an important homeport of the โ€œStrait Cruise Circleโ€. The โ€œStrait Cruise Circleโ€ will cover a dozen port cities including Xiamen, Shanghai, Zhoushan, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan’s Keelung, Taichung, Kaohsiung, Hualien and other cities with great potential and willingness for cruise tourism development.

In 2014, Xiamen will launch a cruise home port project that will meet the berthing requirements of 220,000-ton luxury cruise liners. The project is expected to be finished in five years.
