PETALING JAYA, Malaysia – The elder brother of Chang An Wei, who was abducted at the Pom Pom Island Resort in Sabah, is in the Philippines to secure the return of his sister.
Richard Chang was quoted by Taiwan’s Apple Daily as saying that he had been in the country since Friday to sort out his rescue plan and find a way to hand over medication to his sister, who was reported to have fallen ill in captivity.
When asked about his mission to bring An Wei home, he replied he was “very optimistic”.
On speculation that abductors demanded a RM10mil ransom for the release of An Wei, he said in jest that the demand for such an astronomical figure would have landed him in hospital.
The daily had earlier reported that Taiwanese legislator Tsai Cheng-yuan, who claimed that he was in touch with the abductors, had given all the information he had gathered about the abductors and as well as their demands to Chang.
He declined to disclose further much information about his plan, adding that all he could do was to wait and see what the abductors wanted.
On Nov 15, gunmen stormed into a water villa at the resort and shot dead An Weiโs husband Hsu Li Min before abducting her.
