CHONBURI, Thailand – Twenty three Russian tourists were injured when a bus from Pattaya to Kanchanaburi crashed in Sri Racha district on Friday.

The accident involving the double-decker bus carrying 51 passengers occurred on Road 7, better known as the Pattaya bypass road, rescue officials said. Twelve injured tourists were taken to Samitivej Hospital in Sri Racha, including Gary Pomeransve, 75, the only person hurt in the incident to be named so far.

Another 10 were admitted to Phyathai Hospital in Sri Racha and eight to Pattaya Memorial Hospital. Driver of the bus Preecha Ramwong said he lost control of the vehicle after a car suddenly overtook him.

The bus skidded off the road and hit an electricity pole, he said, adding that he was driving within the speed limit.
