First private Chinese airline books 27th consecutive year of profitability

Xiamen Airlines in Chin said in a statement today, that it expects to report its 27th consecutive year of profitability in 2013, becoming China’s longest consecutively profitable airline.

The carrier stated it has achieved rapid growth between 2011 and now, realizing total profit of CNY6000 million (USD937.5 million), which is equivalent to the sum of its profits in the past 26 years.

The airline noted its average profit margin reached 12.0%, 6.8 ppts higher than the average in China’s civil aviation while its average net assets to profit margin is 2.2 times higher than the national average at 28.6%. Xiamen Airlines is now China’s sixth largest carrier serving 218 domestic routes and 26 international and regional routes.

Xiamen Airlines is the first privately owned airline in the People’s Republic of China. Established on July 25, 1984 and based in Xiamen, it operates scheduled passenger flights out of Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport and, to a lesser extent, Fuzhou Changle International Airport and Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport. The Airline is owned by China Southern Airlines (51%), Xiamen Construction and Development Group (34%) and Jizhong Energy Group (15%).
