South Pacific sets tourism targets

About 1.5 million tourists entered the South Pacific tourism market last year.

And Fiji’s tourism arrivals of more than 600,000 marked a significant contribution to the tourism market in the region.

South Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO) CEO Ilisoni Vuidreketi said they were now prioritising their marketing campaigns on emerging markets such as Brazil and Asia for better returns to the Pacific.

While highlighting their marketing initiatives at a press conference in Suva on Tuesday, Mr Vuidreketi said their marketing strategies were different from the tourism bodies in their 16-member countries.

“They know the location of the South Pacific and what it depicts as a tropical island paradise. They know the Pacific region but they don’t know the different Pacific island countries,” he said.
