United Airlines passengers wanting to get miles on Jet Airways in India – forget it – you won’t see them credited, even though they are part of the United Airlines Mileage Plus syste.

You may actually be forced to leave your wife, son and daughter fly and tell you to stay behind for two days. Here is a story – and you may be warned.

Arjun Singh Rajput (32) says Jet’s thoughtlessness ruined his family’s pilgrimage to Dwarka in Gujarat. After landing in Rajkot, they were to take a train to the holy city. But now, Rajput’s wife Sopu Kuwar (30), daughter Nazar (10) and son Chandan (8) are in Rajkot with no money, while he remains stranded in Mumbai.

Rajput, 32, who owns a few mobile stores in Malad, says he and his family completed their check-in formalities and reached the boarding gate together to board Jet Konnect flight 9W 7205 yesterday afternoon.

He said, “We were issued boarding passes and joined the queue at boarding gate 3. While my wife and childen were allowed to go through the gate, I was asked to wait for a few minutes before being told that the flight was full.” Rajput’s boarding pass did not mention a seat number, but bore the letters SBY (meaning standby). Why the airline put him on standby while allotting the rest of his family seats on the flight is unclear.

A Jet Airways spokesperson claimed Rajput reached the gate at 1:55 pm, five minutes after it was shut for the 2.35 pm flight. In an email reply to Mirror, the spokesperson said, “The guest was escorted to the gate with a standby boarding pass so that he could be taken on board against a no-show. But all the passengers turned up. We have made a waitlist booking for the guest on the next flight and will try and help him out.”

Rajput said, “I was issued boarding pass, which would not have been done if I was late. The 16-odd passengers behind me in the queue were all allowed to board.” The Malad resident told Mirror that he would move the consumer court against the airline. Even as Rajput stayed back, his wife and children flew to Rajkot, where they remain holed up at the airport.

“This was completely unexpected. My wife does not have enough money to even make it out of the airport to a hotel. She does not know anyone in Rajkot. I will have to spend from my own pocket to bring them back,” Rajput said.

He added that the airline staff repeatedly told him he would be accommodated on the next flight to Rajkot at 7 pm, but when the time came, he was told that this flight was also full and that he would have to wait till Monday.
