Business is slow, but Giza Pyramids and the Egyptian Museum are open

CAIRO, Egypt (eTN) – The number of tourists visiting the Pyramids of Giza are far from pre-2011 Revolution levels. But, this has not discouraged local vendors and spectators alike to show up on Friday, November 8, 2013, in hopes of mingling and, perhaps for the hopeful few, earn a living.

Amid the political tension that has been gripping the nation for the past three years, Egypt’s travel and tourism industry is very much open and is in dire need of business. A tour of Cairo and Giza today showed that the Pyramids of Giza and the Egyptian Museum are both open, despite the low number of tourists turning up.

At the Egyptian Museum, about 10 foreign visitors entered the halls of the world-famous museum, which is home to many Egyptian artifacts including well-known discoveries such as King Tut’s tomb. ETN was granted an exclusive clearance to take some pictures inside the museum, so stay tuned!

Below is brief eTN 2.0 footage taken at the Pyramids of Giza:

If Egypt has been on your bucket list, but you have been deterred by the crowds, now would be an opportune time to visit. Foreigners who showed up at the Egyptian Museum and the Pyramids of Giza today were offered Egypt’s most daring discovery – that it is a safe place for tourists to visit.
