Kuala Lumpur – The Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (the Center) celebrated its third anniversary with a second consecutive win of the ‘Best Exhibition and Convention Center in Asia’ award at the TravelWeekly (Asia) Industry Awards 2008 held in Singapore. Other nominees in the same category were regional counterparts Suntec Singapore and the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center.

Said Mr. Peter Brokenshire, general manager, Kuala Lumpur Convention Center, “Winning the award for the second year in a row is true testimony to the importance of teamwork and how much Malaysians, with an international edge, are capable of achieving. This triumph must be shared with our team Malaysia partners Tourism Malaysia, Malaysia Airlines (MAS) and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) who have worked tirelessly with the Center to actively promote the country, Malaysia, the city, Kuala Lumpur and its supporting infrastructure, and in turn, our venue, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center, as one of the region’s leading convention destinations. Indeed, this is a win for Malaysia.”

Thanking supportive clients, Brokenshire added that the accomplishment is a mandate for the Center’s dedicated team to strive harder to deliver quality, professional service in line with their commitment to ensure “our client’s success is our success.”

Nomination criteria for the category of ‘Best Exhibition and Convention Center’ were based on superior products and excellent service; outstanding efforts and professionalism; fulfilling promises to customers; ability to react and adapt to market changes; and customer-focused, innovativeness in products and services, maintaining high standards at all times.

Since its official opening in June 2005, the Center has grown from strength to strength. In 2007 alone, the Center saw an estimated 32 percent growth over 2006 for the total number of events held and an encouraging increase by 26 percent in number of delegates/visitors attending events at the Center. This equates to 628 events attended by over 2.1 million people, which produced 2.2 million delegate days in 2007.

With its ISO 9001, ISO 22000 and OHSAS 18001 certifications and achievement of the Green Globe Benchmarked status (environment), the Center was also recently awarded The BrandLaureate Awards 2007-2008 for brand excellence in Product Branding – Convention Center.
