Dublin is not competing as well as it should be with other European capitals in attracting high-end tourism, the city’s Lord Mayor has warned.
Fianna Fail’s Eibhlin Byrne said issues over safety and excessive drinking in the city centre as well as the lack of a convention centre for business events was hindering Dublin’s saleability. She was speaking in advance of the inaugural meeting of business interests in the capital aimed at promoting the city as a world class destination.
Finance Minister Brian Lenihan, who attended the event, said the government was committed to investing in Dublin pointing out that construction on a National Convention Centre was already under way.
