Coined one of the most beautiful destinations in the world, Montego Bay, Jamaica, is home to sun, sand, a storied history and an unrivalled island vibe. It’s also home to Sangster International Airport, the Caribbean’s Leading Airport as named by World Travel Awards in seven of the past eight years.

This Vantage Airport Group partner airport in Montego Bay is the primary tourism gateway airport to Jamaica and is at the center of the country’s main tourism region. The airport serves a large network of scheduled and charter airlines from the United States, Canada, Europe and Latin America, and welcomed 3.3 million passengers in 2012.

As the island’s largest airport, Montego Bay easily matches the beauty of its surroundings, incorporating local art, music and food to create a sense of place for its passengers. And, with its award-winning passenger lounge, Club MoBay, the airport has had much to celebrate, as The HUB discovered when it spoke to representatives during this year’s World Routes forum in Las Vegas.

Recent developments have included more capacity from Russian carrier Transaero Airlines after a strong first year of operation; news that Thomson Airways and Jetairfly, both of the TUI group, introducing regular Boeing 787 Dreamliner flights from November 2013; for the winter season, Thomas Cook partner Thomas Cook Scandinavia will begin services from Stockholm, Sweden. The new services will be supported by the recent completion in September 2013, of the overlay of Montego Bay’s single runway.

Working with its partner airports, Vantage says it adapts and implements best practices that consider local customs and culture, resulting in airports that are financially stronger, more sustainable and better economic generators for the communities and businesses they serve.
