Routes Las Vegas: Where is the Wow in the Pow?

Las Vegas is no longer the gambling capital of the world.

It is, however, shaping itself up to become the “conference” capital of the world. In the last two years, Sin City has played host to all kinds of conferences–from small scale types (like a “beard competition” and transsexual convention) to mega-events (like POW WOW International, IMEX America, and Miss Universe). The reason is obvious: where else in the world offers such plethora of unique and diverse ways to entertainment yourself while “on a business trip” but Vegas? Naughty or nice, Vegas is the undisputed place to be.

It is then fitting that Routes, the primary aviation industry summit in the world, is holding its first-ever United States convention in the Neon Jungle (aka Las Vegas).

I have just returned from the welcome gala at Mandalay Bay Hotel, part of the MGM Group, which coincidentally the same venue where the United States Travel Association’s POW WOW International 2013 had its welcome gala. Having attended both, it is only fair that I make an assessment of what I experienced.

In the spirit of brevity, I am not going to keep it very simple. Neither pow nor wow showed up at the Routes event tonight. If it did, it would look like something like the below:
