The tropical island of Mauritius is prepared to welcome adventure travelers and mountain bikers to its annual Coast to Coast Mountain Bike Challenge. The event is set to take place from Thursday, September 22, to Saturday, September 24, 2016.
The total distance of the race is 200 kilometers, with participants coming from Reunion Island, South Africa, Mauritius, and, yes, even Europe.
The race takes participants over varied terrain and regions, from volcanic rock and tar roads, to rolling hills, dense jungles, and stretches of sunny rides, as it cuts across the island. Bikers ride through villages perfumed by incense, sugar cane fields, the Ferney Sugar Mill, an old slave location in Belle Mare, and finishes at Anse la Raie near the main tourist attraction of Grand Baie.
And at the end of it all, in addition to the satisfaction of completing the race, are prizes and the chance to spend a few days around a hotel pool or enjoying the ocean with scuba diving, kitesurfing, or stand-up paddling… or maybe just enjoy some golf and shopping – or all of the above!
