JOHANESSBURG, South Africa – The international airport in Johannesburg, South Africa is in the dark.

JOHANESSBURG, South Africa – The international airport in Johannesburg, South Africa is in the dark.

eTurboNews publisher Juergen Thomas Steinmetz arrived from Frankfurt and shortly thereafter the airport went powerless.

South African airlines staff have no back up system in place and cannot direct confused passengers to their gate, to tell the departure times or provide any other essential information.

No reason for this power failure was given. “I was able to walk through security, with the machine beeping but no one stopping me. It appears to be a big confusion and unpreparedness,” said Mr. Steinmetz over the phone.

eTurboNews will be following this developing story and the update will be posted as soon as more information becomes available.
