ROSARIO, Argentina – Two children have been killed and seven people injured in a ferris wheel accident at an amusement park in central Argentina.
The dead were identified as sisters aged 12 and 14 years.
Three of the injured were also children, with at least one in a serious condition, La Capital newspaper in the city of Rosario reports.
The accident happened on Saturday when a car broke loose near the highest point of the 25-metre wheel, witnesses said.
‘‘The car was up at the top when it broke off, people flew, it came crashing down,’’ the paper quoted one witness as saying.
‘‘It landed where people were in line to get on, it was terrible.’’
The report said the ride had experienced problems the previous week before being repaired and put back into service.

It was the second tragedy in a week in the city 300 kilometres northwest of Buenos Aires.
The collapse of a 10-storey block of flats caused by a gas explosion killed at least 14 people and injured more than 60.
La Capital said rescuers digging through the ruins of the building site rushed to the nearby amusement park to assist the victims of the accident on Saturday.
