Saint Tropez is the most expensive destination in France based on the cost of its lodging. That is the finding of a new survey conducted by FranceMagazine.com. The survey specifically looked at 30 popular French summer destinations, with their hotel rates during the month of August 2013 serving as the basis of comparison.

In Saint Tropez, travelers will have to pay, on average, 256 Euros to stay overnight in the most affordable double room (minimum: 3 star hotel) this August. That price tag positions the seaside resort as the most expensive French locale. In fact, Saint Tropez is significantly more expensive than Port-Vecchio, the second place finisher. At an average of 178 Euros per night Porto Vecchio, which is located on the island of Corsica, easily secured the number two spot on the survey. The city-state of Monaco came in as the third most expensive destination, averaging 136 Euros nightly.

Quite affordable throughout the summer is the French capital of Paris. In the City of Light, a room can be booked for only 70 Euros per night this August according to the survey. Even cheaper is Marseille, this yearโ€™s European Capital of Culture. With an average price tag of only 57 Euros nightly, Franceโ€™s second largest city ranks 26th out of 30.

The following table shows the 10 most expensive destinations in France this summer. The prices shown reflect the average daily rate for each destinationโ€™s cheapest available double room (minimum: 3-star hotel) for the time period spanning August 1 through 31.
