BANGKOK, Thailand – Mauritius, with its rich cultural mix, its colorful history and its golden beaches, is now regarded as one of the world’s top luxury tourism destinations.

The island, set in the Indian Ocean about 2,000 kilometers from the east coast of Africa, was named the World’s Leading Island Destination in the World Travel Awards in 2011 and has one of the highest rates of returning tourism visitors in the world.

Centara Hotels & Resorts opened its first Mauritius property earlier in 2013, with Centara Poste Lafayette Resort & Spa Mauritius set on the beach on the eastern side of the island.

Making full use of the soft sand and the calm sea, and with its own lagoon, the resort offers a whole range of complimentary sporting activities, including beach volleyball, bike tours, snorkeling, kayaking, a glass-bottom boat, pedalos, and scuba diving initiation in the pool.

The beach, located at the village of Poste Lafayette in the island’s Flacq district, has plenty to attract those who enjoy strolling and trekking.

To the south of the resort are shallow waters and small islands, with outcrops of mangrove trees, while to the north are long black rock landscapes with dramatic breakers.

Centara Poste Lafayette Resort is flanked by a green mountain to one side, and is on the coast road, making connections with the island’s other attractions, and the airport, quick and easy.

The resort has 100 rooms, their décor blending colors with fabrics that mirror the sun-filled landscapes and azure waters, and each featuring either a balcony or terrace.

There is a large free-form swimming pool and children’s pool overlooking the ocean, and a Spa Cenvaree that offers a range of therapeutic treatments including Ayurvedic applications and holistic experiences. Younger guests are well taken care of with a supervised Kids Club, the Jules Verne themed Camp Safari for children aged three to 11, and the E-Zone for those in their teens.

Centara Hotels & Resorts is Thailand’s leading operator of hotels, with 41 deluxe and first-class properties covering all the major tourist destinations in the Kingdom. A further 17 resorts in the Maldives, Vietnam, Shanghai, Bali Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Mauritius Indian Ocean, brings the present total to 58 properties. Brands and properties within Centara ensure that specific categories such as couples, families, individuals, and meetings and incentives groups will all find a hotel or resort that is appropriate to their needs. Centara operates 27 branches of Spa Cenvaree, one of Thailand’s most luxurious and innovative spa brands, together with its newly-launched value brand Cense by Spa Cenvaree, which provides core spa services for busy travelers. The company’s Kids’ Club is available at all the family-friendly resorts to ensure that the youngsters and teens are taken care of. Centara Hotels & Resorts also operates two state-of-the-art convention centers in Bangkok, and two in northeastern Thailand, one being located in Udon Thani and the other in Khon Kaen. The latest Centara brand is named COSI Hotels, an economy brand designed for travelers who predominantly make their bookings via the Internet and who want comfort and convenience at the most friendly prices available, which is under development with the first property due to open in 2015.
