Another tourism establishment has received Seychelles Sustainable Tourism Label (SSTL) certificate recently.

Another tourism establishment has received Seychelles Sustainable Tourism Label (SSTL) certificate recently. Four Seasons Resort Seychelles was added on the list of tourism establishments that have been SSTL certified, and they are today being promoted to the world as being “an environmentally friendly establishment.”

The team from the resort, headed by its general manager Adrian Messerli, received the certificate from the Minister for Tourism and Culture Alain St.Ange earlier this week. Also present was the Principal Secretary for Tourism Anne Lafortune.

The SSTL is a sustainable tourism management and certification program designed specifically for use in Seychelles. It is voluntary, user-friendly, and designed to inspire more efficient and sustainable ways of doing business. The SSTL is presently applicable to hotels of all sizes.

Four Seasons Resort Seychelles is committed to achieving sustainable practices to conserve natural resources and safeguard the local environment.

In order to make this possible, the resort works closely with local environmental organizations namely Sustainability for Seychelles (S4S), WiseOceans and the environment department in the conservation of the fresh water wetland on their premises as well as monitoring of the marine environment for the coral reef restoration project.

Four Seasons Resort Seychelles gives its guests and staff the chance to learn more about the local environment around the resort and encourage them to help protect it.

The hotel is engaged towards the preservation and promotion of our local culture through various activities, one of them being the weekly creole night during which creole food is served with entertainment provided by local musicians and where local artisans are welcomed to sell their crafts.

For this first assessment, the hotel achieved 117 points, which is well above the required mark of 62 out of 162 points for a large hotel to be SSTL certified.

Out of the eight themes covered by the SSTL, the Four Seasons Resort Seychelles scored more points for waste management practices. The resort is currently investing in a recycling center to compact waste as well as colored bins to facilitate waste recycling.

The resort has also invested heavily in water management by setting up its own desalination plant which provides potable water to its guests and staff thus reducing the pressure on our water resources.

Minister St.Ange congratulated Four Seasons Resort Seychelles for this achievement and thanked them for joining this venture of adopting sustainable practices in the tourism industry.

โ€œWe believe it is the way forward for our tourism industry to have establishments that are contributing towards the preservation and protection of our environment.โ€

โ€œThe success of our tourism industry depends greatly on this and we feel that it is vital to keep encouraging establishments across the country to join in this venture.โ€
