The Asian Dive Expo is the longest running dive show in Asia, and this year it celebrates its 19th edition. Since 2010 ADEX, Asian Divers and Scuba divers Australasia fall under one roof which is known as the underwater3some, and ever since this has been the inspiration and passion behind the ADEX fair.

The function of this event is to bring together divers, conservationists, and media to celebrate all their accomplishments as well as to introduce underwater enthusiasts to new dive locations around the world.

Seychelles is still a very new destination for the region yet to be explored by the Asians, and this fair enables this island destination to showcase its products and attract more divers to its shores.

This year Seychelles was being represented by Ms. Stephanie Lablache, Senior Marketing Executive from the Seychelles Tourism Board, and Ms. Elizabeth Fideria from the Seychelles most known Big Blue divers.

Seychelles was given a slot on the main stage to showcase its underwater world which was presented by Ms. Elizabeth Fideria.

“Compared to previous years, more people have heard about the Seychelles and are anxious to learn still more about it and its underwater wonders, and I think that this is a good platform to showcase more of our destination in the years to come,” said Ms. Fideria.

โ€œAs well as dive enthusiasts, we also met with Mr. Imran Ahmed, a Nikon professional photographer and an ocean artist society member who is an active and well-published photographer known for his underwater photography. Mr. Ahmed is currently working with the Seychelles Tourism Board in making its very first diving book with pictures he has taken and will be taking of the Seychelles and its underwater world. One of the pictures he took last year during SUBIOS was exhibited at the fair,โ€ she added.

Another visitor to the Seychelles stand was Ms. Ai Futaki, an underwater model who holds 2 World Guinness book records for the longest distance swum in a cave with one breath: 100 meters with fins as the first woman in the world and, without fins, 90 meters as the first human in the world. Ms. Futaki visited the Seychelles during the 2011 SUBIOS festival with another famous underwater water photographer, Mr. Aaron Wong, who took some wonderful underwater shots of her which were exhibited for the second year running at the ADEX fair. As a well-known icon, Ms. Futaki works closely now with a number of TV stations in Japan and is keen to return to the Seychelles with a crew to feature its wonderful islands.

โ€œThis fair can only help put Seychelles on the map when it comes to our underwater world, and I am certain with the help of the above-mentioned personalities we will see more divers visiting us in the future,” said Ms. Lablache.

Seychelles is a founding member of the International Coalition of Tourism Partners (ICTP).
