RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil – Brazilian police say gunmen have attacked a tourist van and robbed nine German tourists visiting Rio de Janeiro.
Police say in a brief statement the incident occurred Thursday.
Gunmen forced the tourists’ van to stop as it was approaching a wooded area near Christ the Redeemer statue. The driver and guide were also robbed. The statement provided no further details.
A press officer said by phone the assailants took money, cameras, cellphones and documents and fled without hurting anyone. She declined to be identified because she was not authorized to comment on the case.
