AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands – The World Youth & Student Educational (WYSE) Travel Confederation has announced that it will be launching the third edition of its New Horizons Survey at ITB Berlin on Friday, March 8, 2013 at 10:30 am.

To mark this occasion, WYSE Travel Confederation will be hosting an hour-long panel discussion, featuring representatives from various sectors with a stake in the youth, student, and educational travel market. Moderated by David Chapman, Director General, WYSE Travel Confederation, the speakers will delve into the findings of the most comprehensive benchmarking study of young consumers performed to date.

The online survey, open to young consumers around the world for the second half of 2012, was an overwhelming success with over 34,000 responses collected. The results of New Horizons III promise to provide unique and surprising insights into the motivations, behaviors, and characteristics of international youth and student travelers.

This extensive and one of a kind research project will be used throughout the industry as buyers and sellers seek to understand a diverse and dynamic market, which accounts for 9% of the worldโ€™s GDP, or a value of over US$6 trillion in 2011, according to the World Travel & Tourism Council’s (WTTC) latest figures.

Explaining Hostelling Internationalโ€™s participation in the research project, Mikael Hansson, CEO, said: โ€œHostelling International has participated in the data collection for New Horizons III as reports like this provide further evidence that international travel experiences are an essential part of young peopleโ€™s personal and educational development, feeds their curiosity of other cultures, and contributes to the โ€˜opennessโ€™ that underpins international understanding. New Horizons III delivers much needed data on the motivations and behaviors of young travelers, who represent the fastest-growing segment of international tourism. It provides us with vital insights on our market share, helping Hostelling International to take informed decisions.โ€
